The Asian American Justice Center is accepting applications for unpaid internships for undergraduate and law students interested in practical field work experience on civil rights issues. Interns will be responsible for assisting staff with the following:
Conducting research projects on issues affecting the Asian Pacific American community;
Writing legislative alerts, press releases, and newsletter articles;
Performing some administrative work;
Assisting in program development; and
Other tasks as defined.
Attending Congressional hearings and representing AAJC at coalition meetings;

APA Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS) Internships

Every summer, APAICS' group of exceptional college students from across the nation experiences working in Congress, federal agencies or non-profits. This year, the Class of 2007 APAICS Summer Interns are no different. In addition, the interns attend briefings with members of Congress, networking events with other interns from other national Asian Pacific Islander American organizations, and also participate in joint activities with the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute. Interns also attend brown bag sessions with members of the National Coalition of Asian Pacific Americans (NCAPA), in order to learn more about the wide range of issues facing the APA and other minority communities. Hands-on experience, understanding of the inner workings of government, and independence are the results.

APA Labor Alliance (APALA) Internships

Founded in 1992, the Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance (APALA), AFL-CIO, is the first and only national organization of Asian Pacific American (APA) union members. Over 600,000 APA workers have joined unions and are seeking better pay, improved benefits, dignity on the job, and a voice in the workplace. Backed with strong support of the AFL-CIO, APALA has 11 chapters and pre-chapters and a national office in Washington, D.C.

Originally formed as an all-volunteer organization in 1998, the APALRC grew out of a unique collaborative effort by students from D.C. area law schools and attorneys associated with the Asian Pacific American Bar Association (APABA) and the South Asian Bar Association (SABA). The APALRC was founded in response to the lack of linguistically and culturally appropriate legal services for the growing number of Asian Americans.

Awarded annually since 1992, CAPAL's scholarships have enabled promising students with leadership potential to pursue public service internships in Washington, DC, while learning how to influence policy decisions that affects their communities...Each CAPAL Scholar is required to research, propose, present, and implement a Community Action Plan (CAP) to benefit her/his local community upon return from the summer internship. Each CAPAL Scholar must choose a topic relating to an important APA issue of her/his choice and develop a project that will assist, educate, or inspire others on this topic. By the end of the summer program, each CAPAL Scholar must present her/his CAP to CAPAL members and other interested parties in the DC area. Mentoring will be provided to CAPAL Scholars for support and guidance in the development of their CAPs. Following the internship, CAPAL Scholars must provide a written update and a short assessment report on the implementation of their CAPs.

Through the ILF Fellowship Program, we provide scholarships to APA college students and place them in structured Summer Internships with government agencies. This is a great opportunity to learn firsthand about national issues and policies that affect Asian Pacific Americans. The OCA Internship Program also exposes interns to other aspects of Washington, D.C. Last year, interns visited Congressional offices where they had an opportunity to meet with Congressional Representatives, APA staffers, and members of the Congressional APA Caucus. Interns will also have a lot of hands on experience at the offices in which they are placed.
Development and Communications Intern for Becky's Fund
Time Commitment: 8-10 hours per week

The Development and Communications Intern will work with our development team, providing support in the areas of fundraising, events and communications. Responsibilities may include:
* Designing and implementing toolkits, printed solicitations and e-mail campaigns to fundraise and friendraise for Becky's Fund
* Researching and profiling foundation and corporate donor prospects.
* Developing and drafting grant applications and proposals.
* Assisting with other fundraising and community relations efforts including the Volunteer Program.

Research and Communications Internships at the Migration Policy Institute

The Migration Policy Institute (MPI) is an independent, nonpartisan, nonprofit think tank dedicated to the study of migration worldwide. Based in Washington, DC, MPI works closely with practitioners, researchers, and policymakers to analyze, develop, and evaluate migration and refugee policies at the local, state, national, and international level. MPI offers both Research and Editorial/Communications Internships. Since MPI's inception, the internship program has trained over 50 future global migration scholars. Publication opportunities are available to interns and over half of MPI's interns are now published authors in the field of migration.

To talented college graduates and students pursuing post-graduate study, APAICS offers six fellowships. These fellowships range between $20,000 to $30,000 for a nine-month period of living expenses. These Fellows are placed in Congress, federal agencies or non-profit organizations. Such fellowships give opportunities for particularly talented APA youth to more fully experience a longer duration of working in the public policy process. Also, these fellowships provide their recipients with a great support network and valuable experience.

With the generous support of the Anheuser-Busch Corporation, the ILF offers one Dr. John B. Tsu Memorial Fellowship to honor the dedication and service to the Asian American community of the founding ILF Chairman. The Dr. Tsu Fellow receives a stipend for a three-month supervised public service internship and research program. The Fellowship must be completed anytime within a year of the student being selected. Only graduating college seniors may apply to become Dr. Tsu Fellows.

This Fellowship provides an individual with 3-5 years of community development, organizing or policy related work experience the opportunity to address federal housing and/or community development legislation and policy while working in a congressional office or committee. The Fellow analyzes legislation and its impact on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and reports this information to national and local AAPI, housing and community development organizations. The 2008 Fellow has been selected - look for future announcements.
