Welcome to Better Understanding Club!. BUC is a ODU recognized student organization
formed with the goal of promoting dialogue, tolerance, and understanding
among students of diverse faith.
We try to provide opportunities to bring people with various
belief backgrounds together to engage in dialogue and form new
friendships. To this aim, we organize seminars, picnics, book
readings, Ramadan dinners, and discussion panels. You will find
that BUC strives to occasionally go beyond the campus and into
our Hampton Roads community, as well. We are delighted
that you have taken the time to visit our site. Please feel
free to send us your comments or contact us for upcoming events.

The Better Understanding Club hosted its second annual Interfaith and Intercultural Ramadan Iftar Dinner in Rivers Rooms at ODU on Thursday the 12th of October. Guests of the event included President and members of ODU, prominent scholars, clergy and members of the different communities.
The evening began with the Islamic call to prayer. About 90 people, among them Muslims, Jews, Christians and Buddhists broke fast Thursday night altogether.
Dr. Ali Yurtsever, president of the Rumi Forum, gave the welcoming address to guests. He stressed the importance of interfaith and intercultural dialogue in his remarks. He told that “Rumi’s universal message serves as the basis of our mission, which is to facilitate dialogue by promoting love to transform hate, understanding to prevent misinterpretation, flexibility against rigidity, and, above all, tolerance to overcome bigotry.”
The meal was followed by speakers Dr. Rosen Runte of ODU President who spoke about the importance of the communication amongst the different cultures and religions
