Delta Sigma Lambda Alumnae

On February 10, 1962 a group of eleven Delta Sigma Lambda Alumnae met and formally organized an Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Lambda Sorority. Since that time the chapters have continued to grow and to fulfill their objectives. They have various events and speakers throughout the year and are an active group. If you a woman 25 years or over who has had a break in her education, and who attended ODU at some point in her education; you are eligible to join the alumnae group.

DECEMBER 12   Home of Kathy and Mike Crist, 3589 Utah Avenue. Hostess, Kathy Crist

Many thanks to Kathy and Mike for offering their warm, wonderful home for our traditional covered dish Christmas luncheon.  Kathy has also graciously offered to present a Christmas program for us in the form of a Christmas reading.  We will conduct the annual Chinese Polyanna, a gift of no more than $10.00 value.

JANUARY 16   Home of Katherine and Howard Ange.  Hostess, Katherine Ange

It just would not be January if we did not go to Katherine and Howard’s and enjoy their delicious soup and the equally delicious sandwiches courtesy of co-hostesses Marjorie Mitchell and Doris Norwood.  This year we will once again do a cookie exchange.  Each member is to bring a dozen or so of her favorite, best homemade cookies.  We will pack a goodie bag to take home and maybe share with family!  Our program this month will be presented by our own Evelyn Robinson on Sherlock Holmes.  She will probably dispel some myths and misunderstandings about the great detective!  This promises to be fun!

FEBRUARY 20   Mongolian Bar-B-Que, 862 N. Military Highway, Hostess Stacie Huck

This month we celebrate our fifty-fourth birthday!  Lunch will be your choice prepared in the Mongolian Bar-B-Que style at a cost of $10.00 per person. We are excited about the program for February. Kathy Kaplan, Director of Donor Relations in the Office of Development and the Chief Financial Officer, Kelvin W. Arthur, will speak to us about the Educational Foundation in general and our Endowment Fund in particular.  We have often had excellent questions raised about the management of the Endowment.  This is a must attend event if you want the most informed answers and the latest status of the Foundation’s monies in the market.  Plus you must not miss the birthday cake!

MARCH 20   Canterbury House, 1526 W. 49th Street, Hostess, Evelyn Robinson

We return again to the very friendly Canterbury House at ODU.  Once again we will have a Bag Lunch with drinks, plates, etc. provided. by the sorority.  Our program promises to be informative and entertaining.  Bob Walsh, a ventriloquist known as “Deputy Bob,” will be our guest presenter.

APRIL 17   Home of Marianne and Tom Hinds, 320 E. Chickasaw Road,  Hostess , Marianne Hinds

We will really welcome spring the month of April at the gracious invitation of Marianne and Tom Hinds, in Virginia Beach.  We plan to order box lunches from the Gourmet Gang for $10.00 per person.  Our program will be generated by members themselves.  We plan to share “Inspirational Messages.”  As readers, we all come across passages that are thought provoking, profound or inspirational that we feel should be shared with someone.  This is the opportunity to do just that, with a time limit of five or six minutes per person. This is Endowment month and we will give our contributions to Marianne to be forwarded to the Endowment fund.

MAY 15   Home of Lois and Louis Waid, 512 Caddy Court, Hostess Lois Waid.

Once again we end our year on a bright note in the beautiful home and gardens of Lois and Louis.  This will be a gourmet Pot Luck luncheon.  Our program will be presented by Linda Cockrill, Director of the LPN School at Norfolk Technical Center.  Linda is a very good speaker and has a wealth of information about the school and the students.  You will be impressed!
