About GSO |
The Graduate Student Organization is a newly formed and officially recognized group formed especially for the needs of Old Dominion University's graduate student body. Foremost among our many goals is to form an overall meeting arena for the graduate student community to get to know each other outside of individual courses of study. We have recognized the difficulty of meeting graduate students outside of one's particular discipline, and therefore have created an organization with the intent on fixing this issue.
Another of our goals is to be an outlet for the graduate student voice. We would like to act as a liaison group between the graduate body and the University. We hope to bring the University the concerns or issues that are specific to the study at the graduate level. The Vice Provost of Graduate Studies is working with the GSO to help with this goal. Our current projects include revamping graduate orientation and forming surveys about such issues as graduate health insurance, extended library hours and graduate housing opportunities, so that we may effectively bring them to the attention of the University.
There are boundless opportunities for graduate students to be involved in the Old Dominion and Hampton Roads communities. The GSO would like to take on the role of organizing these opportunities and making them available to graduate students to increase fellowship and unity. Events in planning include a graduate student dinner, bringing in speakers and panelists, informational discussions for future and current graduate students, and community service opportunities.
By joining the Graduate Student Organization, you join a group of individuals committed to forming an unified graduate student body, as well as ensuring that graduate study at Old Dominion continues to be as beneficial and excellent as it can possibly be. We welcome any and all students- current graduate students and undergraduates considering a future in graduate studies. Thank you for your interest!
