Membership Requirements

Membership is open to all undergraduate and graduate students in the Human Services field and other related fields. Elections for all board positions including officers and chairpersons are held at the conclusion of each spring semester prior to year of service; however, elections for positions that open during the year may be held accordingly.

Meetings are currently held the second and fourth Thursday of the month during the school's recognized "activity hour", from 12:30 - 1:15 pm in Room 158A of the Darden Education Building.

Membership dues are $12 per semester, or $20 per year. Please bring your dues and completed application to the 3rd meeting of the semester, or drop them off /mail them to 1071 Webb Center Norfolk, VA 23529. We accept checks (made payable to the Human Services Association), money orders, and cash. The HSA application is available under the tab ’Member Application' on the left side bar menu.

You must be a member of the organization to be considered an active member. This is where you will be able to vote, RSVP for meetings and sign up and get credit for events!

Don't just join, be an active member....

If you pay to be in an organization, you should be "active" to get some fulfillment out of what fees you paid! We encourage members to participate in events as well as reward them for being "active members". Become an active member and reap the benefits!

To receive credit as "a member in good standing" to be recorded with the Office of Student Records at Old Dominion University:

1. All members are required to add HSA to their organization involvement on OrgSync.

2. Campus students are required to attend at least 1/3 of meetings, and participate in at least three campus events/community service projects per semester (approx. 2 meetings and 3 to 5 community service events).

3. Students in their semester of internship are exempt from campus meetings; however, they must participate in at least one community service project.

4. TELETECHNET students must perform 6 hours of community service and submit a letter signed by a supervisor. Letters can be submitted to the address on the contact page. Letters are due by the 5th meeting of the semester. MAIN CAMPUS 6 community service hours should be completed and documented by the 5th meeting of the semester.
