Mission

Service and education are the focal points of the Military Student Union at Old Dominion University. The Military Student Union welcomes anyone who is interested in military life whether or not they want to join the military in the future. This is not ROTC or a commissioning program, although sometimes we work with the ROTC units on campus. MSU holds excellence competitions, banquets, annual Veteran’s Day ceremony, and other events. Service to the campus community as well as the surrounding area should also be a prudent endeavor given the dedication and motivation of our members and all that we have the potential to improve.

Military Student Union is an outlet for both members of the military and civilians interested in the military to come together to form a community and attend events for our benefits , give back to the ODU community, and be a representative body to the military on behalf of ODU.

Organizational Goals

Professional, educational, and ethical development are the cornerstones of the Military Student Union. However, service is our very foundation. We take pride in serving our country, community, school, and each other. Through unwavering dedication and steadfast motivation, we plan to make a positive difference in the lives of those around us. We emulate honor, courage, and commitment; and are examples of integrity to the entire student body. The goal of our organization for the up coming year is to positively impact our school, city, and the surrounding area. We hope to utilize our resources to contribute to the positive cultural atmosphere on campus while making a meaningful difference in the greater Hampton Roads community.

Our organization is open to all Old Dominion students. We want anyone interested in supporting our mission statement. Also, we openly invite anyone with a curiosity about the military to join and learn. You do not need to be in either of the 2 ROTC programs here on campus (Army, Navy). Our current membership includes Army ROTC cadets, Naval ROTC midshipmen, Marines, as well as civilian students. We do not discriminate on any basis and welcome all students who are interested.
