MEMBERSHIP APPLICATIONS

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

INTRODUCTION

Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing is among the most prestigious organizations in the world and exists to:

  • recognize superior achievements in nursing
  • encourage leadership development
  • foster high nursing standards
  • stimulate creative work
  • strengthen the commitment to the ideas of the profession

There are two categories of membership: 1) student and 2) community nurse leader. Candidates shall have demonstrated superior scholastic achievement, evidence of professional leadership potential and/or marked achievement in the field of nursing. Student candidates include those enrolled in baccalaureate and masters nursing programs, which have been accredited by a nationally recognized body for professional nursing.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Undergraduate Student
    • completed at least one-half (25 semester hours) of the required nursing component of the BSN curriculum
    • grade point average of at least 3.0 on a four point scale as indicated by the official record of grades
  • Graduate Students
    • completed a minimum of one-fourth of the required graduate curriculum
    • grade point average of at least 3.5 on a four point scale as indicated by the official record of grades
  • Community Nurse Leaders
    • baccalaureate or higher degree
    • demonstrated marked achievement in the field of nursing, education, practice, research or publication
    • proof of exceptional achievement in one of the above areas (documented on vitae or member intent form)
    • copy of highest degree (transcript or diploma) must accompany application

Pre-Licensure BSN students who meet eligibility criteria will receive an invitation to Join Sigma Theta Tau in early February. Instructions for accepting membership and online registration will be within the invitation letter.

COMMUNITY LEADER APPLICANTS, please submit the following:

  1. Current CV which includes demonstrated marked achievement in the field of nursing, education, practice, research, or publication.Proof of this achievement documented also on membership intent form.
  2. Copy of the highest degree (transcript or diploma) must accompany application form.

February 15 Application deadline
February - March  Application review
Early March Applicant notification
March 15 Member acceptance responses due
April Induction ceremony.  Further information regarding induction will be sent with the acceptance letter.
