Research Home Guidelines Application Call for Applications

INDIVIDUAL RESEARCH AWARD APPLICATION

Criteria

A. Applicant Criteria

  1. Applicant must be a registered nurse and have a Baccalaureate or higher degree.
  2. Applicant must be a member of Sigma Theta Tau.Priority will be given to Epsilon Chi members and to proposals not currently being funded from other sources, other attributes being equal.Current members of the Epsilon Chi Board of Directors are not eligible to apply and receive research grant funding.

B. Application Process

  1. Applicants submit research award application that includes name, title of research proposal, project date, anticipated completion date and funds requested.
  2. Each applicant must submit a curriculum vitae that includes education, work experience and other activities relevant to research that does not exceed two pages.(Students enrolled in a higher degree program with direct supervision of a qualified instructor may want to include this information.)
  3. Applicants submit research proposal.This proposal must include:
    • Statement of the problem,
    • Research question/s or hypothesis/es,
    • Design,
    • Sample,
    • Procedure,
    • Data analysis,
    • Significance of project
    • Detailed listing of anticipated costs associated with the project and
    • A plan for human subjects protection review.

*This section is limited to five (5) pages.

C. Competitive Basis for Fund Allocation

  1. Clinical relevance of the project.
  2. Clarity of written proposal rated on a scale of one (low) to five (high).
  3. Appropriateness of the design.
  4. Clear delineation as to the significance of nursing.
  5. Research proposal budget.
  6. Research fund budget and the number of proposals submitted.

D. Obligations

  1. Grant recipient abstains from attending Executive Committee meeting slated for recipient award selection.
  2. Grant recipient signs a letter of agreement that acknowledges receipt of research grant funds, and acceptance of project guidelines.
  3. Grant recipient submits a summary of research progress six (6) months after award of funds and upon completion of the study.
  4. Grant recipient presents the research findings to the Chapter at a designated Chapter meeting or induction activity.
  5. Grant recipient credits the support of the Chapter in any publication or presentation relating to the funded research.

GRANT ALLOCATION

The amount of funds requested, the number of requests, and the available monies in the Chapter research fund will determine the amount of any grant award.The maximum amount to be awarded each applicant is $ 3,000.00.

GRANT APPLICATION DEADLINES

The deadline for submission of the application, current curriculum vitae and study proposal is 5pm EST on Friday, March 31, 2006.
